Diamond, Emerald, Sapphire or Aquamarine Baby Earrings: Which One to Choose?
A baby’s first earrings may be one of the smallest pieces of jewellery we create, but working on such a delicate scale requires extraordinary precision.
At PETRÏTA, our Baby Jazmín 18K gold baby earrings are designed specifically for the proportions of a baby’s ear. Every detail — from the size of the flower to the gemstone and its setting — is considered from the beginning of the design process.
The result is a tiny jewel intended to accompany some of a baby’s earliest moments and, eventually, become a piece worth keeping as part of their story.
Designing jewellery on a miniature scale
Creating baby earrings is very different from simply making an adult earring smaller.
The proportions need to work on a much smaller ear, which means carefully considering the diameter of the design, the weight of the piece, the position of the gemstone and the shape of the closure.
Our Baby Jazmín earrings are created around these small proportions from the first stages of the design.
The jasmine — one of the most recognisable motifs in the PETRÏTA universe — is reinterpreted on a miniature scale while maintaining the details that give the flower its character.
Why we use 18K gold for Baby PETRÏTA
Our Baby Jazmín earrings are made in 18K gold, which contains approximately 75% pure gold.
For us, the material is part of what gives a first jewel its lasting character. These are earrings designed not only to be worn during childhood, but also to be preserved as a memory of those first months.
That is why the Baby collection combines precious materials with designs created specifically for very small ears.
Each gemstone is selected individually
One of the most delicate parts of creating the Baby Jazmín earrings begins before the gemstone is even set.
We select the stones one by one.
Natural gemstones can present slight variations in their dimensions, tone and shape. On a larger jewel these differences may be subtle, but when working with a piece only a few millimetres in size, precision becomes especially important.
Each stone therefore needs to be considered individually before it becomes part of the earring.
This selection allows us to look for the proportion and appearance that work best within each Baby Jazmín.
The gemstones are set by hand
Once the stone has been selected, the setting is carried out manually.
The setting needs to be adapted precisely to the individual gemstone so that it fits correctly within the miniature design.
Working on this scale requires particular care. There is very little space, so the relationship between the flower, the stone and the metal has to remain balanced.
This means that even though two Baby Jazmín earrings share the same design, each pair passes through its own individual selection and hand-setting process.
It is one of the details that makes the creation of these tiny pieces surprisingly meticulous.
